Frequently Asked Questions
What qualifications do you hold and are you insured?
I am qualified in Bowen Technique (Advanced Level 1 – BowTech), Level 3 Sports Massage Therapy, McLoughlin Scar Tissue Release (MSTR®) and am an EIQ Accredited Nutritional Coach.
Alongside my core qualifications, I regularly undertake continuing professional development (CPD) and additional training relevant to my services, including passive stretching techniques, movement, strength and flexibility, lymphatic techniques within Bowen, and rehabilitation and self-management strategies. This allows me to provide evidence-informed, person-centred care tailored to your individual needs.
I am fully insured and a member of the relevant professional associations. You can find details of these at the bottom of my About page.I am fully insured and a member of the relevant professional associations. You can find details of these at the bottom of my About page.
What should I wear, and will I need to remove any clothing?
Please wear loose, comfortable clothing that allows access to the area being treated.
Depending on the treatment and the area requiring assessment, you may be asked to undress to your underwear. Only the area being treated will be exposed, with appropriate draping used throughout your appointment to protect your dignity, privacy and comfort.
Every individual will be treated with dignity, respect and professionalism. If you have any concerns about clothing or treatment, these can be discussed before and during your appointment.
What happens during my first appointment?
Your first appointment includes a detailed consultation, medical history, assessment and treatment where appropriate.
This helps ensure your treatment is safe, personalised and tailored to your individual needs, lifestyle and goals.
Following your assessment, any findings and treatment recommendations will be discussed with you, allowing you to make an informed decision about your ongoing care. There is never any obligation to book further appointments.
Is treatment painful?
Every person is different, and everyone has their own comfort and pressure tolerance. Before treatment begins, we'll discuss your preferences, and the pressure used will always be tailored to your individual needs and adjusted throughout the session to ensure your treatment is both effective and comfortable.
Bowen Therapy is a gentle treatment and is not intended to cause pain.
Sports Massage Therapy and MSTR® Scar Release Tissue Therapy should not be painful. However, where muscles, soft tissues or scar tissue are particularly tight or sensitive, you may experience some temporary tenderness during or after treatment. This is a normal response and is usually short-lived.
Do I need to do anything after my appointment?
Yes. Following your appointment, you will be provided with personalised advice tailored to your individual needs, treatment and goals.
Where appropriate, this may include rehabilitation exercises, mobility or strengthening exercises, passive stretching techniques, movement education or self-management strategies to support your recovery and help you maintain progress between appointments.
For Nutritional Coaching, you will receive personalised nutrition resources, educational information and an individualised action plan designed to help you build sustainable habits and confidently apply what you've learned in everyday life.
